Hello and welcome to our LIVE text commentary of the Premier League fixture between Liverpool and Huddersfield Town at Anfield.
Neither side qualified for the midweek Round of 16 matches in the Carabao Cup, so expect both managers to field their strongest starting eleven’s in a contest between two teams who are separated by just one point and two positions in the table.
Liverpool’s inconsistent start to the campaign continued last weekend, with them losing 4-1 against Tottenham at Wembley Stadium. It was yet another poor defensive display from Jurgen Klopp’s men, who will have to improve in this aspect if they are to win today’s contest. They have only let in one league goal at Anfield so far this season, however, with the 15 other goals all conceded on their travels.
After going six matches without victory, doubts began to circulate around Huddersfield despite their impressive start to the campaign. A 2-1 victory against Manchester United last weekend removed all those doubts, however, as the Terriers became the first team to defeat Jose Mourinho’s side in the league this season. Expect a similar performance this afternoon from David Wagner’s men, who are facing Liverpool for the first time in the 21st century.
The last meeting between these two teams was in a 1999 third round FA Cup clash. Liverpool were 2-0 victors that day thanks to goals from Titi Camara and Dominic Matteo.
HEAD TO HEAD: Huddersfield are winless in all competitions versus Liverpool in 10 matches, a run which stretches back to 1960. The Reds have won seven and drawn three of these matches.
There’s just over 15 minutes to go until kick-off, so let’s reveal how the two teams line-up…
Huddersfield Town substitutes: Green, Malone, Kachunga, Cranie, Quaner, Mounie, Hadergjonaj.
The home side have made two changes from their defeat against Tottenham, with Emre Can and Philippe Coutinho making way for Georginio Wijnaldum and Daniel Sturridge.
David Wagner has made one change from his squad that faced Manchester United last weekend by replacing Elias Kachunga with Rajiv van La Parra.
The teams walk out and proceed with the fantastic Remembarance Day tribute here at Anfield. The game will get underway shortly.
HALF-TIME - LIVERPOOL 0-0 HUDDERSFIELD TOWN - It has been a very even contest so far at Anfield, with the away side coping with Liverpool's pressure throughout the first-half. There was controversy on the stroke of half-time, however, as Kevin Friend awarded a penalty after Tommy Smith pulled down Roberto Firmino in the box. Mohamed Salah stepped up to take the penalty, but it was saved brilliantly by Jonas Lossl to keep the score level at half-time.
The teams emerge from the tunnel ahead of the second-half.
FULL-TIME – LIVERPOOL 3-0 HUDDERSFIELD TOWN - A clinical second-half display from Jurgen Klopp’s side secures all three points for the Reds at Anfield. It was a first-half to forget for Liverpool as Huddersfield contained and limited them to very few chances. They did win a penalty, however, but Mohamed Salah failed to convert after a brilliant save from Jonas Lossl. Daniel Sturridge scored early on in the second-half, before Roberto Firmino doubled the lead with a header shortly after. Georginio Wijnaldum added a brilliant third goal with a powerful strike into the top right-hand corner to secure all three points for the hosts.
