Hello and welcome to the live commentary of the Europa League clash between Malmo and Chelsea.
Malmo have not played a competitive match since beating Besiktas in the Europa League group stage in September. They are unbeaten at home in the Europa League this season, though they only drew with Genk last time out. The Swedish club will be confident of causing an upset tonight against a struggling Chelsea side.
Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri is already under severe pressure, having lost 6-0 to Manchester City at the weekend. Sarri’s side have failed to score in their last four away matches and have not been creating many chances. The Europa League is crucial for the Blues as a route to quality for the Champions League with a top four finish looking increasingly unlikely.
MALMO (5-3-2): Johan Dahlin; Andreas Vindheim, Lasse Nielsen, Rasmus Bengtsson, Behrang Safari, Soren Rieks; Arnor Ignvi Traustason, Fouad Bachirou, Anders Christiansen; Marcus Antonsson, Markus Rosenborg.
SUBS: Eric Larsson, Dusan Melicharek, Anel Ahmedhodzic, Oscar Lewicki, Egzon Binacku, Carlos Strandberg, Romain Gall.
CHELSEA (4-3-3): Kepa Arrizabalaga; Cesar Azpilicueta, Andreas Christensen, David Luiz, Emerson; Mateo Kovacic, Jorginho, Ross Barkley; Willian, Olivier Giroud, Pedro.
SUBS: Antonio Rudiger, Eden Hazard, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Willy Caballero, N’Golo Kante, Gonzalo Higuain, Davide Zappacosta.
Rosler will be pleased with his team's performance, though he will be frustrated with conceding such a soft goal. The hosts have pressed well and looked a threat from set pieces. Chelsea have been uninspiring and are perhaps fortunate to be ahead, having not created much. The away goal is crucial, but the defence is a concern once again. Sarri has plenty of options on the bench and could give Hudson-Odoi some minutes in place of Pedro, who has struggled to influence the match so far.
Thanks for joining our commentary this evening. Until next time, goodbye.
Sarri will be pleased with the victory and improved second half performance. Chelsea deserved the win but will need a much better display when they face Manchester United in the FA Cup on Monday night. Malmo played well but lacked pace to really trouble Chelsea on the break. The second goal demoralised Rosler’s side as they fatigued in the second half and makes it a much tougher task to comeback in west London next week.
