We're underway at Wembley.
Both teams will be looking to set down a marker for the new Premier League campaign. Liverpool were beaten to the crown by City in one of the closest title races in league history, with both sides amassing over 90 points each. No side had ever claimed more points without winning the title than Liverpool did last season. That will be on the mind of Jurgen Klopp as the new domestic season is about to begin even if the Reds did win the Champions League last term.
Good afternoon and welcome to the live commentary of the Community Shield match between Liverpool and Manchester City at Wembley Stadium.

Liverpool are without Sadio Mane this afternoon due to his late return from the Africa Cup of Nations. Origi gets the nod to start in his place alongside Salah and Firmino in the final third. Gomez slots into the back four, ousting Matip, who has to settle for a place on the bench.
The players are out on the pitch so we should be underway shortly.
City claimed the Premier League crown, EFL Cup and the FA Cup last season, although the Champions League still eluded the club. Pep Guardiola will be hard pressed to enjoy a stronger campaign domestically, but the league will once again be his priority. Liverpool were very worthy foes and the Spaniard will be looking to make a statement in their first match-up of the campaign to re-affirm City's status as the top club in the country.
Although Pep Guardiola's men are ahead, the Spaniard does have one concern. Leroy Sane was forced from the pitch before the City goal due to an apparent leg injury. Sane has been linked with a move away from the club, but after starting the match it appears as though he is in the plans of Guardiola this term. Those ideas may have been scuppered depending on the severity of the problem.
Despite Liverpool's late pressing they cannot find a winner. Joel Matip's header cancelled out Raheem Sterling's first-half effort, meaning that the contest will be decided from the penalty spot.
Liverpool will be first up from the spot. Here comes Shaqiri...
Shaqiri fires home the first penalty from the spot, blasting his effort into the bottom corner. 1-0.
Gundogan holds his nerve, curling his effort into the corner. 1-1.
SAVED! Wijnaldum takes a poor penalty, which is at a comfortable pace and height for Bravo, who makes the stop by diving to his right. 1-1
Bernardo Silva dispatches his effort with power into the corner, handing City the lead. 1-2.
Bravo does his best to upset Lallana's rhythm, but the Liverpool man buries his effort low into the bottom corner. 2-2.
Foden takes on the responsibility and displays his composure by curling a left-footed strike into the net, sending Alisson the wrong way. 2-3.
Oxlade-Chamberlain takes a fine penalty, blasting his effort high into the top corner. 3-3.
Zinchenko looks a tad nervous as he steps up. Alisson goes the right way, but the effort of the left-back has enough power to burst through the keeper's hands. 3-4.
Salah has to score to keep Liverpool in the game. He curls his effort beyond the reach of Bravo into the corner. 4-4.
CITY WIN! Jesus takes a staggered run-up and it does enough to prevent a full-length dive from Alisson. The Brazilian finds the corner to win the shootout. 4-5.
FULL-TIME: LIVERPOOL 1-1 MANCHESTER CITY (Manchester City win 5-4 on penalties)
Liverpool open their Premier League campaign next Friday against newly-promoted Norwich City at Anfield, while City begin away at West Ham United on Saturday.
